What do you think about the course you are studying?
The course I’m studying is MA TESOL, it is incredibly helpful in terms of practicality and professional development. I have gained many useful strategies and knowledge about teaching English to my adult students. I wish I’d knew these earlier, so that my students could benefit a lot more from my teaching.
I feel this course opens up a door for my English teaching route, I find many interesting and inspiring things that I wish to explore further and further.
Why did you choose this subject?
Back in China, I was an English teacher, teaching adults general English and helping children from school with their English studies. As I teach, I find my professional knowledge about English teaching is not enough, therefore, I have decided to develop my profession further.
This subject fits with my needs. My role in my working context in China needs me to design courses and materials for the learners. And all the TESOL modules have been useful and helpful for me, as an English teacher.
How do you think the skills and knowledge you have gained on your course will help you get a job after graduation?
I would say the main skills I have gained is designing appropriate, interesting and engaging course and materials for learners. This is very important to me, as a teacher, because this takes up a big percentage of my role in teaching.
Professional knowledge about teaching, in terms of effective and innovative teaching approaches, arranging classroom activities and developing a good teacher-student relationship.
Why did you choose to study at University of South Wales?
To be honest, at the beginning of my MA application, I aimed to find a university with less Chinese learners, because I hear from my friends that the place with a lot of Chinese learners will not be of much help for your studies.
The location is another reason. It is in a very peaceful location which I personally think is good for studying.
Has your learning experience at South Wales been positive (eg support from and communication with teaching staff; facilities like lecture halls, laboratories, IT equipment, Learning Resources Centre)?
My learning experience in USW has been very positive in terms of tutor support. My tutor has been guiding, inspiring and supportive all through the course. And I think this is more than important for any learners. This allow me to have the best learning experience ever.
