Why the University of South Wales?
I had worked for almost two years as a staff nurse at Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital in Brunei Darussalam when I decided to formalize my experience through the University of South Wales BA (Hons) HRM programme. I was also involved in a range of HR developments by selecting some nurses and midwifes for training courses in the public sector. I wanted to gain the professional (CIPD) qualification and planned to do the course so that I could quickly put my new skills and knowledge into practice. South Wales University gave me the opportunity to do just that through the three-year full-time programme and I enjoyed the challenge of the course immensely. Not only did it put into context the previous HR work I had done, but I also gained enormous benefits from the diversity of the student group and from the experiences and perspectives of people of all ages and from all over the world.

During my studies at the University of South Wales, all of the lecturers on my course were very approachable, friendly and supported my research dissertation – I have successfully completed my research on skills shortage of nurses and midwifes in Brunei hospitals. The lecturers were very engaging and draw on a wide source of materials during learning with clear and concise lectures thus making the learning more enjoyable.

Any advice to those thinking about studying this course at the University of South Wales?

I am confident that I have learnt the latest knowledge in the world of HRM at the University and with the CIPD accreditation I am confident that I am now more employable. As well as giving me more knowledge and new skills in HR that I can apply to the workplace, my experience at the University of South Wales has allowed me to make friends from all over the world and create memories that I will cherish.
