Student Profile Jose Fraginals

How did you hear about USW?
I started doing some research on the internet about which universities offer a Master Degree for one year and the UK had many options for me. I shortlisted three universities and the coincidence was that USW had a representative (Joanna Scaplehorn, International Officer) visiting my University and then I was finally convinced by her and the academic offer from USW.

Why did you choose to study at USW?
The main reason was the statement that a high percentage of their graduated students find a job within the following 6 months after graduating, along with the reasonable cost and the opportunity to study a Master’s Degree in one year full time.

What has been the highlight of your time at USW so far?
Learning a completely whole new area for me, which is Logistics and Supply Chain and making new friends from other countries, which is fascinating.

What do you think of life in Wales generally?
It is such a quiet place, I like the environment (particularly in Treforest, where you can enjoy the student ambience). I’ve heard there are some great places to visit (haven’t seen all of them so far).

What do you think of the course/lecturers/facilities?
It is a different system; completely new from what I was used to back in Mexico but the methods are great. There is a focus on “study/research on your own”, therefore you will develop great time management skills along with the knowledge obtained from the lectures who are such great people. The facilities are also great which helps make your student life easier.

Where do you live? Do you like living there?
I live off-campus, renting a room in a shared house with five other students and so far it has been a nice experience. You get to know more people outside a university environment and the best thing is, you don’t feel alone and it makes the transition of coming from another country easier.

What do you plan to do when you graduate?
My main goal is to get a job in the UK in the area I am focusing on now (Logistics and Supply Chain Management). I would love to stay here in Europe and give the best of me in a working environment.

Would you recommend USW to other students?
Absolutely, I definitely recommend and encourage other people to study at USW; it’s such a great experience that you cannot take for granted. From an International Student perspective, I can advise that studying abroad will definitely give you a competitive advantage over those who choose to stay in their home country to study.

There is nothing I regret so far and nothing I can see in the future to complain about, no reasons at all. The only thing I could comment, is that the weather seems to be crazy some times, if you are coming to study at USW, get ready for spring, summer, autumn and winter, all in one day! My final advice is to enjoy as much as you can and make the most out of it.
