Migle has just completed her first year studying photography. She has shared some of her experiences being a student at USW below:

Why did you choose USW?
First thing that caught my eye was the modern looking architecture and design. ATRiuM building looked so interesting and I began to wonder if they had photography. The next thing I did was I looked through course information. It had everything I wanted to learn about photography. I compared few universities (from UK and Lithuania) and I saw that USW has better course.

What do you think about your campus location?
I’m studying in ATRium and my campus is almost the in city centre. It’s a very good location. Lots of shops around, places to hang out, easier to find job, and the accommodation is also not too far from the ATRiuM. Halls is across the street and houses bit further. You can find everything you need in centre. The campus (for now) has one main building and the student union, but it is expanding quite fast. So far, I’m happy that my campus is near the city centre.

What do you think about the teaching staff on your course?
The staff is very helpful. If you have any questions or doubts about something, you can ask them and they will be glad to help. I’m studying photography and from time to time I had few doubts about my ideas and teachers helped me with it. Also when I had technical problems with my camera, they helped me to fix it. The staff also talk with us not only about our course, but about everything. Of course it’s after class or while we have a break. Maybe some people don’t like it, but I enjoy talking with them not only about photography. The lectures are also interesting. They explain information by using examples and cameras to show us how to make the thing they are talking about. One example would be when one teacher showed us how to do light painting with lights you can find in your room/house. It’s very interesting when they use their own experience/work to make it easier for us to understand. So far I think that my course staff is excellent and I’m happy to have them.

What has been your best experience at USW so far?
My best experience so far could be the time, when I began to use darkroom. I always wanted to learn about darkroom, the old way to print photographs. It is (for me) very interesting and exciting and I don’t think universities in Lithuania have darkrooms (not 100% sure, maybe few of them has). Maybe that’s why it’s the best experience to me?

How do you think your experience studying at USW will help you after you have graduated from university?
By the time I graduate, I will have experience with most of the photography genres, cameras, studio, darkroom and a lot more. I finished only first year, but I heard that next thing for us will be to gain work experience and we will be working on what we will be interested in. So I think when I graduate, I will have enough skills to become freelance photographer, work in studio, shop or anywhere that needs photography.

What advice would you give to any students who are thinking of studying at USW?
First thing what I would advice to do is to make sure you want to study at USW. After that, don’t be afraid and apply. :) USW is fun and friendly place to study at. :)
