Hi, My name is Mega Indah Rezki, I am from one of small city in Indonesia which is Jambi province
What course am I studying?
At the moment, I am studying MSc Engineering Management
How did I find out about the University of South Wales?
First time, I knew about USW is from one of the biggest daily newspaper in Indonesia and then I was starting looking further information through the website
Why did I choose to study here?
I have done some comparing for the course, living cost, and tuition fees. So based on that, I think that I choose the right environment for study with affordable living cost
What about the course you are studying and how you find the lectures?
I am studying Engineering Management course, I study about management and some elective modules from engineering. It is a good opportunity for me who was not in management background before, to explore my engineering knowledge with management understanding.
A bit more about studying at the University, what is it like?
It is a great experience to study with and meet some international friends, and it teaches me to be more confident in public speaking to convey my thoughts.
Did I attend the International Welcome Week? If so, would I recommend it to new students?
Yes, I attended the International Welcome Week where I met my friends there and we are still remaining to be a good friends until now. Besides meeting new good friends, you also could join a lot of interesting activities to know more about Wales (such as, Welsh dance).
What are the facilities like at the University?
The University has many good facilities for lectures and doing your assignment, what I really like the most is the postgraduate center (different from other buildings) where there is a really comfy area to study with computer facilities and discussion tables.
What have I enjoyed the most (Lecture, project, trip, particular moment etc)?
I really enjoy the university trips as I’ve managed to visit many interesting places and for class activity, I really like group discussions but sometimes we have group meeting calmly in the library.
What’s the most useful thing I have learnt?
Studying abroad taught me to be more independent since there is no one I could rely on from my friends and family in my home country. I learnt about the cultures in UK which are really different from my country (such as, you have to queue and you cannot break the queue)
What advice would I give to someone who wants to study in the UK?
This is a good chance to learn new things, what I mean here, it is not only just for academic but also the experience of life (meeting new people, adapt with new culture)
What do I do in my spare time? Have I joined any sports or social clubs?
Other than study, I join another activity. There is a community for Indonesian student in UK, I participate there as a representative for Indonesian’s student from Wales.
How have I surprised myself? For example, did I turn out to be really good at something I didn’t expect to be?
Yes I do surprise with my cooking skills, it is much better than before since I am not afraid of cooking a new menu. The most surprising thing is, I can make money with selling my homemade food and the customers also give positive feedback.
*What moment will I never forget? *
I will not forget the moment when I first arrived in Trefforest, the unexpected event happened out of my plan. I met one person who helped me a lot with accommodation and settle down. Then I realized, there are still many good people in the world that god sends to you, which will help you when you really need a help.
Something that I think would be useful for prospective students to know?
Studying abroad is your chance to develop your personality skills, since you have to adapt with new society and culture, education system, and other barriers. You will not regret any single experience that you have learnt as it will create the better version of you to face the future with.
What will I miss the most about University when my course finishes?
I will miss the moment when I have a group discussion with my team member in the library, since we can stay there for hours. I was not really enjoying going to library before, but now I love studying and hanging out there.
What has University taught me?
The University have given me new knowledge but most importantly the ability to apply my knowledge in the working world. I’ve also realized that my English skills are a lot better than before; I have developed my writing skills and my confidence in public speaking.
What are my aspirations? What would I like to do when I finish my studies?
I have so many things that I want to achieve, one of my plans is creating my own business which I can make a living with it.
