Isabela Cruz de Faria, Brazil

Isabela Cruz de Faria, Brazil

Why did you choose this course?
I choose this course because I’m a Petroleum Engineering student in Brazil, so I thought this would be a good course to complement to my academic profile.

Why did you choose USW?
At first I was looking for somewhere closer to London, but then the opportunity to come to USW showed up and after doing a little research I ended up interested in coming to Pontypridd, a smaller town in Wales. Wales has such a different culture to Brazil with its own language and beautiful places to visit so I know that I couldn’t have made a better choice!

What do you think about your campus location?
The campus location is great. We have all the basics here in Trefforest and we are close enough to walk to the nearby town of Pontypridd, if we need anything else. They have very good shops for food, clothes and many other things. We’re also very close to Cardiff by train, where the nightlife is amazing! They have many nice pubs, clubs, restaurants and shops.

What do you think about the teaching staff on your course?
The teaching staff have been amazing to me since I arrived here. Even though I came in the middle of the course, they were all very kind and helped me with everything.

Do you like your Accommodation?
Yes, the accomodation is great. We have lots of facilities here, the rooms are very well equipped, with fast wifi connection and all the things that we need. Is also a great way of meeting new people and making good friends!

What has been your best experience at USW so far?
I’m afraid I can’t choose one to be the best experience until now. Everything has been so amazing since I got here! Getting to know people with great experience and amazing knowledge like my teachers, making lots of friends from many different countries, having so much fun in our free time, these are some of the best things so far.

How do you think your experience studying at USW will help you after you have graduated from university? The knowledge I gained here will help me, for sure, but other than that, the experience of living a year by myself in a whole different country and interacting with people from all over the world will help me even more. You learn to adapt yourself and open your mind to new experiences and ideas that you never thought before. I think these are great skills that everyone should learn.

What advice would you give to any students who are thinking of studying at USW?
I would tell them to embrace it and let go of their fears. The University is amazing, every part of it, and there’s no way you’re going to be lonely, sad or helpless here. The experience of been at the university is very unique, and USW is for sure one of the best places to live it!
