Gijs Machielsen

Gijs has joined USW to study towards his MSc in Management. He has shared his experiences so far and the benefits of studying abroad.

How did you find out about the University of South Wales?
I went to an undergraduate fair in Utrecht. During the fair I have met Erik and Jarno from Go4master, which informed me about this opportunity.

Why did you choose to study here?
My motivation to extend my knowledge in business at master level. I also wanted to extend my experience in living and studying abroad.

Tell us about studying at the University, what is it like?
It is a place where you develop yourself and where lecturers feel naturally involved with their subject and students.

What are the facilities like at the University?
The University of South Wales offers enough facilities to to boost your academic skills. There are plenty of places where you can work together with students or study independently.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to study in the UK?
Be someone who can step out of your culture and traditions, because every culture and every country is different and offers you the opportunity to explore new traditions and all other aspects of culture, which can benefit you from social perspective.

Tell us something that you think would be useful for prospective students to know?
For Dutch students, who want to study in the UK, the University of South Wales offers good opportunities, because of the facilities, disciplined and interesting lectures, broad selection of study programs and its location. Studying in the UK offers students the opportunity to boost your international experience, gain academic knowledge, and finally it is a very effective way to become a near native English speaker!

What do you do in your spare time?
In my spare time I read and travel through the UK.

What has been the social highlight or highlights?
Living on campus with students from Kenya, Ireland and Germany.
