Relationship strengthens between Sunway University, Malaysia and the University of South Wales

April 6, 2017

On Tuesday 4th April Steve Fisher, Academic Manager for Music and Performance and Sally Jones, International Recruitment Officer held a video conference with Performing Art students at Sunway University in Kuala Lumpur.

Anastasiya Saidova and Gulnaz Abisheva, former Sunway students, also joined Steve and Sally for the session at the Atrium, our Cardiff Campus. The University recognises the Diploma in Performing Arts offered at Sunway and has been welcoming students for 5 years onto the final year of BA (Hons) Performance and Media.

During the session, the Sunway students raised questions about the modules on the award, student life in Cardiff, accommodation options and work placement opportunities. Anastasiya and Gulnaz, currently attending USW to complete their final year in BA (Hons) Performance and Media, were able to give a real insight into the cultural, social and academic aspects of studying at the faculty of Creative Industries from an international student’s perspective.

Steve was welcomed at Sunway University in 2015 and hosted a very successful guest lecture there. Steve said: “I found it a real privilege to meet the students and staff at Sunway University in person and it is very gratifying to see the increase in applications to our course in the two years following my visit”. Sally regularly visits Malaysia and attends Sunway’s education fair once a year as well as presenting information sessions on campus.

The University of South Wales looks forward to welcoming the new group of Sunway students to The Atrium in September!
