Dr Ben Calvert welcomes our Chevening scholars

November 20, 2015

Chevening Scholarships are the UK government’s global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO). The programme makes awards to outstanding scholars with leadership potential from around the world to study one year postgraduate courses at universities in the UK.

The number of scholarships available tripled to more than 1,500 in 2015. There are over 43,000 Chevening alumni around the world who together comprise an influential and highly regarded global network.

Since the programme began in 1985, the university has welcomed 22 Chevening scholars and in September 2015, a further 4 Chevening scholars from Barbados, Botswana, Haiti and Mongolia enrolled.

Dr Ben Calvert, PVC – Learning, Teaching & Student Experience, welcomed our Chevening students over lunch on 20th November 2015. Dr Calvert was pleased to learn that our scholars are settling in well to life at the university and that their courses are challenging and will be beneficial to the scholars when they return to their home countries following graduation next year.

Chevening applications for September 2016 have now closed but if you would like to find out about other scholarship opportunities, please visit our International Scholarships webpage.
