The Vice-Chancellor welcomes our Brazilian Ciência sem Fronteiras - Reino Unido (CsF) students

June 15, 2015

On Tuesday, 28th October 2014 our Vice-Chancellor, Professor Julie Lydon OBE, formally welcomed our Ciência sem Fronteiras – Reino Unido (CsF) students to the university.

Ciência sem Fronteiras – Reino Unido (CsF) provides selected Brazilian students with scholarships to study undergraduate sandwich programmes, PHD sandwich programmes and full PHD programmes overseas. Scholarships are provided by CAPES CNPq and is supported by Universities UK.

USW has been participating in the programme since it began in September 2012 when 2 students enrolled. Since then the programme has gone from strength to strength with 20 students enrolling in 2013/14 and a further 26 enrolments in 2015/16. Students are enrolled on a wide range of Science, Technology and Creative Industry courses and will complete a 3 month placement or research project in the summer holidays.

During the welcome meeting students were given the opportunity to chat with the VC in an informal setting and sample some local welshcakes and scones. The Brazilians were excited to meet with the VC and their patriotism shone through when one of the students brought out the Brazilian flag at the mention of a photo opportunity!

We wish all our Ciência sem Fronteiras – Reino Unido (CsF) students a successful year at the university!
