Welcome to the University of South Wales! As one of the largest universities in the UK we are proud of our internationally diverse student body. We have been welcoming students from Japan to the University for some years and have developed excellent support services for you, including:

  • Academic support services to help you achieve your highest potential whilst studying with us
  • Career guidance and support services to ensure you are in the best position to gain employment when you graduate from the University

Fees and Scholarships

Scholarships

Students from Japan are eligible to receive our International Academic Scholarships which are available across all levels of study.

  • International Academic Scholarships of £1,500 for undergraduate students
  • International Academic Scholarships of £2,000 for postgraduate students
  • International Academic Scholarships of £1,500 for MBA students

Entry Requirements

Foundation Entry Requirements

English Language Requirements

Proficiency in English is essential for study in the UK. The University of South Wales considers a number of Secure English Language Tests (SELTs) supported by the UKVI for entry to the UK, including the following English language qualifications:

  • GCSE English at grade C
  • IELTS 6.0 (with minimum 5.5 in each band)

Don’t worry if you do not meet these requirements as we offer a range of English Language Courses to prepare you for academic studies.

Academic Qualifications

Students who have passed the Kotogakko Sotsugyo Shomeisho (Upper Secondary School Leaving Certificate) and have an English language ability equivalent to IELTS 6.0 will be considered for our International Foundation Year Programme.

Students who have passed the Kotogakko Sotsugyo Shomeisho (Upper Secondary School Leaving Certificate) and have an English language ability equivalent to IELTS 5.0 will be considered for the International Foundation Programme (Intensive English).

Undergraduate Entry Requirements

Holders of the Senmonshi (Technical/Vocational Associate degree) or students on the first year of a 4 year Japanese degree will be considered for direct entry onto the first year of our undergraduate programmes. Applicants with other relevant qualifications may be considered on a case by case basis.

Postgraduate Entry Requirements

English Language Requirements

Proficiency in English is essential for Postgraduate study. The University of South Wales considers a number of Secure English Language Tests (SELTs) supported by the UKVI for entry to the UK, including the following English language qualifications:

  • GCSE English at grade C
  • IELTS 6.5 (with minimum 5.5 in each band)

Don’t worry if you do not meet these requirements as we offer a range of English Language Courses to prepare you for academic studies.

Academic Qualifications

Holders of a Gakushi (First Degree), Shūshi (Master’s degree), or an Advanced Diploma (from institutions or courses authorised by the National Institution for Academic Degrees and University Evaluation) will be considered for direct entry onto our postgraduate programmes. Applicants with other relevant qualifications or work experience may be considered on a case by case basis.
